¿WHO is Attorney Osorio?

Ms. Osorio was born in Cali, Colombia. Ms. Osorio speaks fluent Spanish, English, and French. In 1987, She graduated with honors from Catholic University of Colombia with a degree in Law. While in Colombia she worked as a custom judge at the border with Venezuela. In this position, Mrs osorio decided cases of merchandise smuggling into Colombia. She moved tro Bogota and she opened her own practice where she litigated cases in criminal and civil law.

She obtained a scholarship from the Spain Institute of Ibero american Cooperation and studied a specialization on “Comparative Law” at the Complutense University of Madrid. While studying in Madrid she also finished a six month certificate of “high International studies” at the Society of High International Studies of Madrid. She finished a commercial program at the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid, and also obtained the homologation of her law degree at the Department of Education of Spain, that allows her to practice in Spain and the European Union.

When Ms. Osorio returned to Colombia she worked as a general manager at the Commercial bank Bancoquia, and started a specialization in “Management and External Trade and International Marketing”.

Ms. Osorio worked with the Government of Valle del Cauca as the Unit Chief in the office of Development and external Trade. In this position she helped the private and public sector to establish coordinate policies toward the National and International market.

She promoted the region Valle Del Cauca, its products and services in Ecuador and Central America and the First “Expo Pacifico”, an International Fair celebrated in Cali Colombia in 1994.

Ms. Osorio was a professor at the Javeriana and Icesi, two prestigious universities in Cali, as well as been the Executive Director of the commercial area of the Chamber of Commerce of Cali, Colombia.

Ms. Osorio served as an Executive Director of a nonprofit organization “Continuar” at the University of Valle. In this position she developed educational, social and economical services and projects to the community of Cali and the metropolitan area. During this time Ms. Osorio was involved in the conservative party and was an active member of the civic political movement “Accion Ciudadana”.

She finished a master’s degree in political studies at the University Javeriana in July, 1999. She was also involved in the Army Reserve in her country and she graduated as a Lieutenant.

Before leaving her native country due to the violence that took place in Colombia, she worked as a Regional Director of the Caja de Compensation Campesina, a public–private organization that supports Sugar Cane employees.

Ms. Osorio immigrated to the United States at the end of 1999. She worked for several years with a refugee and asylee federal founded program at Catholic Charities of Central Florida. In this position Ms. Osorio provided outreach and information to various ethnic communities in the area, gave orientation and helpful information to youth and parents familiarizing them with the American culture, and presented other information helpful to newcomers in the United States. Ms. Osorio’s work and dedication facilitated and eased the adjustment period for refugee-immigrant families.

In July 2007, by passing the Louisiana Bar, she obtained the accreditation of her law degree, and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in October 2007. She is authorized to appear before all Louisiana State Courts and in all United States Federal proceedings such as Immigration Courts and USCIS.

In 2008, Ms. Osorio joined “The Hope Community Center”, a nonprofit organization that provides different programs and services to the farm worker and poor income families in Central Florida. As an immigrant herself Ms. Osorio knows firsthand the immigration system and the complexity of the process that individuals, and families face when dealing with immigration issues; her goal is to help immigrants and provide accurate information that would allow them to obtain a legal status in this country.

Ms. Osorio has maintained a close relationship with the Hispanic community. She was an active member of many nonprofit organizations in Central Florida such as “Trabajando Juntos” and “Hispanic Professional Business Women Association”.

She was a member of the Hispanic Advisory Committee to Orlando’s Mayor Buddy Dyer. On April 30, 2010 she was recognized by the newspaper “La Prensa” and received the award “Women That Make a Difference in the Legal Field” for her contribution to the Hispanic community providing immigration legal services. She was also a member of the “French Alliance of Greater Orlando”. Ms. Osorio is also a Member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Louisiana Bar Association and The Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida.

In 2013 Mrs. Osorio was selected as an ambassador of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Orlando, and she was nominee for the “Don Quijote Excellence’s award”, but she had to retire her nomination because she moved to Charlottesville, Virginia on July 2013.

Attorney Osorio moved in July 2013 to Virginia, She is already a member of the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce, and she provides free legal immigration consultations twice a month at Casa de Maryland and at the Consulate of el Salvador, Woodbridge VA

She wants to continue with her dedication, professionalism and legal support to the immigrant community.

Adjustment of Status:

This procedure allows an applicant to be eligible to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States. If you have a close family member, an employment offers or you qualify to obtain legal permanent residency in the country, we are here to help you.

Asylum

If you fears persecution in your home country and your life is in danger you can apply for Asylum.

The asylum process has become a lengthy process; you need to show that you have a well founded fear of persecution and you suffered persecution based on your political opinion, or for been a member of a social group, or for your race , nationality or your religions beliefs. 

Cancellation of Removal

Under the United States Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) it is a legal remedy available to all qualified persons who have been placed in removal proceedings.

Citizenship

If You have good moral character, You are over eighteen years old, have been a legal permanent resident and have the physical presence of three or five years, you can become a US Citizen and enjoy the privileges conferred by the citizenship.
